REMEMBERING THE PRESENT
The night is deep again, with the calm hysteria of cicadas. I climb upward into its dark chambers, in search of new forms of darkness, stillness. The occasional automobile mimics the sound of the sea. I think of the waves of my youth that pressed me under, and a few in which I unknowingly felt a pre-intellectual paradise. My spirit undulates between consciousness and unconsciousness of the re-birth hidden within the apocalypse.
But the inconsonant motorcycle tears me away. I become aware of the nightscape and its visual spoliation. I have escaped to this city, fleeing that which is external and internal to it. At night, when the cicadas and crickets presume their royal place of sound, I stage my final battle against sleep, just before fresh cherries and melatonin, thinking of friends and lovers lost.
But tonight I think also of new friends, in particular a conversation I recently had about a technology and the spirits of good and evil. Alas I am already too sleepy to offer any sort of introduction. Nevertheless, if you – what is the contranym of hipócrita lector? – let’s say beautiful glowing-eyed, seashell-eared reader… find yourself suffering a superabundance of ecstasy, melancholy or boredom, you are cordially invited to witness said ventilation:
